2. Develop a burning passion & an anger about your present situation. The only way to make the goal a reality is to get more than enough determination and create the inner force.  Get mad and create massive internal pain.

3.     Know exactly WHY. Reasons come first, answers come second.  The “why” creates the drive and momentum.

4.     Do it for the most important person in the world…YOU! Don’t do this for or against anyone but yourself.

5.     Write down your exact plan. Create the actions you must take, and the rewards for achievement.

6.     Create your rewards. Give yourself something to look forward too, so you can celebrate your victory.

7.     Set a deadline. The end is as important as the beginning.

8.     Determine the daily results. Just figure out what you need to achieve each day, and do that.  Remember, it’s that 1% shift each day that takes you to a new destination.

9.     Look for alternatives or substitutes. If you have to quit something, get a diversion to take your mind off temptation.  Create an empowering alternative.

10.                        Don’t quit just because you slip. If you fall off the wagon, just get back on.

11.                        Post your goals and achievements. Create a Vision Board. After you achieve a goal, take them down and write them in a success journal to review. Look at your success journal every day for positive reinforcement.

12.                        It’s a day-by-day process. If you do your daily scheduled plan (baby steps), the passing days, weeks, or months will bring you the prize.

13.                        Change other habits, so that one is not overpowering the other. Goals and results require change. Take the opportunity to make a few more not that you have momentum.

14.                        Celebrate your victory. Reward yourself with your predetermined prize!

The Growth and Contribution Network

You should have a positive outlook on life and the challenges you face, but that’s not enough to keep anyone going.  In order to stay motivated, you have to put a lot more into the mix.  If you break down the root of the word, you get “motive-to-action”.  You have to combine action, along with a positive mental attitude to stay motivated.  What’s your motive?  Why do you want it?  What do you want to accomplish?  Answering these questions is where you start.  Then answer the question, what action must I take to get what I want?  Then, of course, you need to take action.

Once you take action, you begin moving forward.  Combine that with a positive mental attitude, and suddenly you begin to engage your entire body and central nervous system.  You become completely engaged, and your core driving forces no longer become solely mental will power, but rather a constant cycle building momentum on itself.  When this happens real motivation shows up, because you’ve now started an internal cycle within you that generates its own drive – or real motivation.

Having a positive mental attitude is great, and you should, but it’s not enough to keep you motivated.  As I’m sure you know, mental strength and willpower only last so long unless you reinforce them with action and other support structures.  Look at this way: let’s say you have a table(that represents motivation) and one leg is positive mental attitude and one leg is will power.  How stable is that table going to be?  Not stable at all.  Now, let’s add another leg, action, and another called momentum from your actions.  How stable is that table going to be now?  4 legs definitely makes for a solid foundation, and two does not.  So, forget what the “experts” tell you.  It takes more than a positive mental attitude to stay and become motivated.  That’s just false hope.  It takes action and engaging your entire core.  That’s real motivation.  Just my perspective though!  For more information on how I can help you build real motivation, contact me at greg@gregkaroly.com, (414) 375-8805, or www.gregkaroly.com

First, the “Bump” app is designed to instantly share and beam your contact data directly to another iPhone user by gently bumping phones.  It acts like a v-card, but it’s instant and you have more control over what gets sent and not sent.  Here’s the thing though, both phones have to have the app installed.   It’s FREE, so get it.  The app is the cool part.  Now here’s the killer part.

For all of you who network, and whether you realize it or not we all are constantly networking, this app is a great ice breaker.  Think about it, you now have something to approach a stranger about.  Go up to him or her and ask them how much they like networking and exchanging business cards in such a superficial way.  Then, say lets forget the business card and “bump” phones.  What?  It sounds simple, but why not take a different approach and stop sounding like every other man or woman out there trying to make a connection.  And for you shy people, God bless you, you now have something to say and focus on.  It will take the pressure off your anxiety.

Don’t be like everyone else at your next networking event.  Be unique and original, and try something new.  Don’t just say: “hi, I’, so-and-so, and what do you do?”  Who knows, it just might lead to your next great opportunity.  It’ll only cost you nothing except a little friendliness.

By the way, I know the other person has to also have an iPhone.  If they don’t that can lead you into a whole new direction and conversation.  If you don’t know what that direction is, call me and I’ll hook you up.

I’m not here to debate the merits of that study or any national statistics. I am here to tell you that from personal experience, meaning me, and the experiences of my clients and my circle of influence – those that have written goals are far more motivated, happier, healthier, wealthier financially and spiritually, and tend to have far healthier and deeper relationships, and are more spiritual! That’s the bottom line. Goals work without question. If this is true, then why doesn’t everyone have goals and take action on them? Everyone has there own motivating factors, so to generalize my answer would be unfair to everyone. However, I think for the most part, people are comfortable in the lives they’ve settled for. They’ve lost their passion and shelved their dreams. Simply put, they’ve become lazy and complacent. That doesn’t mean that can’t get their fire back, it just means they haven’t been exposed to the tools and strategies that bring them back to their driving force.

That being said, what are the tools and strategies that get you back there? I will go over those in a later post, or you can contact me directly and I’ll help you(www.gregkaroly.com or 414-375-8805). That is a completely different discussion and far more extensive than I can address in one post. What I will address are the steps necessary to really set your goals for maximum drive and results. There are a number of models to set goals preached about today: BHAG’s and SMART are the two most predominant models. Both are good, and both can produce some results. However, neither has any drive behind them or real structure to get you the really explosive results you’re after. Let’s look at them.

Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAG’s) – what a killer name, but what a flop. It’s an awesome name usually applied to your normal goals. It’s a quantifying word that makes you feel good about a traditional goal. Now, where’s the strategy behind BHAG’s that shows you how to achieve your goal? THERE ISN’T ONE. So no what? You’re forced to apply the traditional SMART model; a boring model that has zero drive or passion behind it. The SMART model was designed by a geek, in my honest opinion. Using this model totally kills the effectiveness of the emotion surrounding BHAG’s acronym. SMART says goals should be: Smart, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, & Timely. How depressing! When has anything great ever been accomplished by being attainable and realistic. Those words alone, tell you to lower your standards and shoot to low. Of all the words associated with the SMART model, timely and measurable are accurate. That’s it. Timely, because you need a deadline. Measurable, because you cannot manage what you cannot measure. Now throw the rest away, and let’s start doing goals the right way – MY WAY.

Here is my base system for getting everything you want in life. I will list the steps absolutely necessary to achieve your goals, and if you want to know more of the thought process behind them and help implementing them, call or email me, and I will hook you up!

1. What are your dreams and/or fantasies for your life? Or what were they if you’ve lost them?
2. Write them down in the present as though you’ve already accomplished them.
3. Do not water them down
4. Draw or paint a crystal clear picture, with words or images, so you see it as bright and clear as your hand in front of your face.
5. Write down what accomplishing this goal will do for you in every area of your life: spiritually, financially, health-wise, relationships with yourself and other, career-wise.
6. Write down what it will cost you in every area of your life if you don’t achieve this. Be brutally honest and be very specific. Drive it home.
7. Write down all of your resources, tangible and intangible, that you have access to. Remember, leaders maximize their resources!
8. List any obstacles you can think of, and list ways you can mitigate as many as possible. Even list things such as, my friends or family will not support me or make fun of me. This is important.
9. Who can help you achieve your goal?
10. What special skills or knowledge do you need to acquire?
11. Write down your action plan
12. Write down your specific target date
13. Sign your name to this
14. Do two actions immediately, one big and one small, that will move you towards your ultimate result.

I know this seems lengthy, and it is, but do it a couple of times and it goes fast, it’s fun, and watch your dreams start coming true. There is, I have to admit, a little more to the process that I left out. Specifically, there is a more emotional element involved that I must relate to you face-to-face. It makes this process so much fun and completely fulfilling and rewarding. My hope is that someday we can connect in person and make your life the masterpiece you desire. These steps will get you moving in a direction far superior to 96 1/2% of the population though. Make it happen, and start today. Until we meet in person…

My belief says that you should give and contribute outside of yourself first selflessly.  I suppose that’s why I’m a business consultant and coach.  I’m doing my best, and successfully, to help my clients get ahead and win at life.  What people don’t seem to understand anymore are the internal and intangible blessings that come your way.  The funny thing is the more I give, the more I get in return, and everyone I know who gives feels the same way.  When I give, or you give more of yourself to others unselfishly, you get emotional juice, goodwill, feelings of contentment and peace, happiness and joy, and sense of well-being with the universe.  That may seem hokey, but you also get serious financial rewards too if that’s your preference.

My point is, if you come from a place of selfless giving and gratitude, the rewards are endless.  If you always giving, you will open yourself up to receive all the universe has to offer.  Don’t worry if some people take advantage of you.  There are plenty more out there who will more than support you.  Just contribute beyond your self and you will experience unprecedented riches, both emotional and financial.

Life is about giving, relationships, and gratitude.  How you choose to maximize yours, is your deal, but why not enrich the lives of as many people as possible.  The rewards just might astound you.  If nothing else, you may have touched someone’s life in way that propels them to new heights or out of despair. Change a life, change your life, and life with massive giving and gratitude.  Until we connect in person…
